Crowds and Ephemera
As a frequent attendee of concerts and parties I am familiar with the social landscapes of both musical performances and casual celebrations. These centers of social engagement and youthful excess convey a certain cathartic release between attendees in an environment that is at once chaotic and free. At the heart of both environments is an emotional pendulum which swings between rapid excitement and rest.
This project began in the Fall of 2019 prior to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the United States, and continued through Spring of 2020. Given the restrictions of life in quarantine, I turned my eye to scenes of daily life which inspire the aforementioned emotional qualities although in an entirely different context.
Through a search for emotional resonance in my immediate visual surroundings, I began to form a method of sight meant to define a drifting, disgruntled mental state.
